How Much Does React Native App Development Cost in 2026?

Our React Native apps start at $5,000 for a simple app built from finished designs, and complex ones start at $30,000. Where yours lands comes down to a few decisions you can make before anyone writes code.

React Native is the stack we know best. We've used it for a companion app that controls a nursery device over Bluetooth and for a travel app rated 5.0 on the App Store. This guide uses projects like those to show what moves a React Native app toward either end of the range, how much you save compared with building two native apps, and what you keep paying for after launch.

The short answer

Two things set the price of a React Native app: how much it has to do on day one, and what exists before we start. Bring finished designs and we turn them into a working app. Bring an idea and we design the app first, and that work is part of the price.

What our React Native apps cost
App typeWhat it usually isCostTimeline
SimpleOne core task, standard sign-in, a ready-made backend such as Firebase$5,000 – $15,000Up to 1 month
StandardTwo or three core tasks, a custom backend, push notifications, one integration$15,000 – $30,0002–4 months
ComplexA connected device over Bluetooth, health data under HIPAA, real-time features or several user rolesFrom $30,0006–10 months
What our React Native apps cost

Finished designs put you toward the lower end of a band. Starting from an idea moves you toward the top, because design comes before code. Either way, we fix the price after discovery, so you know the number before development starts.

Is React Native cheaper than building two native apps?

Yes, by around 30% on our projects. More than 90% of the code is shared between iOS and Android, so most features are built and tested once rather than twice.

The saving stops short of half because some work still happens per platform. Features that reach into the phone's hardware, such as Bluetooth, the camera or background tasks, need a native module on each side. Each version is tested on its own devices and goes through its own review, on the App Store and on Google Play.

That shared codebase is part of why the prices above sit below the market ranges in our guide to MVP development cost.

What drives the price

Four things move a React Native app from one band of the table to the next. You decide the first one before the project starts.

1. Finished designs or an idea

An app built from finished designs goes straight into development. One that starts as an idea needs user flows, screens and a clickable prototype first, and that design work is part of the bill. If you already have designs, check that they cover every screen and every state, including errors, empty lists and loading. A gap found on paper is cheaper to fill than one found halfway through development.

2. How much the app talks to hardware

The companion app we built for Misty the Cloud pairs with a nursery night light over Bluetooth and controls its temperature, sleep trainer and light shows from the parent's phone. Each of those features has to be tested against the real device on both iOS and Android. Hardware work like this is where the shared codebase helps least, and it's why Misty was a Complex build.

3. A ready-made backend or your own

Firebase gives an app sign-in, push notifications and real-time data without building a server from scratch. Overlap, a social travel app we built, uses it for sign-in with Google, Facebook, Apple or email and for alerts when travelers' plans overlap. A custom backend gives you full control over your data and business logic, and it's one of the main differences between a Simple and a Standard app in the table. Overlap still landed in the Standard band because of what was built on top: travel-style matching, a world map of trips and shareable trip recaps.

4. Health and other regulated data

An app that handles health data under HIPAA needs access control and secure data sharing built in from the first sprint. On Feetsee, a diabetic foot monitoring platform, that meant patients and their physicians each seeing only what they should. This work costs about the same whatever framework you build in, and it puts an app in the Complex row of the table.

What common features add to the price

The bands above are built from features. Here is roughly what each one adds to a React Native app, for iOS and Android together. These are estimates, and your quote comes after discovery, once we've seen what the feature has to do in your app.

Typical cost of common features in a React Native app
FeatureWhat it coversAdds roughly
Sign-inEmail plus Google and Apple sign-in, password reset$1,000 – $2,500
Push notificationsNotification setup, user settings, delivery rules$1,000 – $2,000
PaymentsCard payments or in-app purchases through a standard provider such as Stripe$1,000 – $1,500
Maps and locationMap screens, search, location tracking$1,500 – $4,000
ChatOne-to-one messages, media, read status, notifications$3,000 – $8,000
Admin panelA web dashboard for managing users and content$3,000 – $8,000
Custom backendYour own server and database instead of Firebase$5,000 – $15,000
Bluetooth device connectionPairing, device control, sync and testing with real hardware$5,000 – $15,000
Typical cost of common features in a React Native app

A standard version of each feature lands near the lower end. The top of each range covers work that's specific to your product: payment rules that don't fit a standard flow, chat with moderation, or a device with its own protocol.

What you pay after launch

The build is a one-off cost. Running the app is a separate, smaller budget, and most of it goes to accounts in your name: $99 a year for the Apple Developer Program, $25 once for Google Play, and hosting and third-party services that start on free tiers and grow with your users. Our guide to MVP development cost lists these lines in full.

Then there's upkeep. Apple and Google ship new OS versions every year, React Native moves on with them, and both stores eventually stop accepting builds made with old SDKs. Plan for at least one update cycle a year, even if you add no features.

We bill support for the hours the team actually works. You can keep us on with a guaranteed response time or bring us in task by task.

How we price a React Native app

Every project starts with discovery: we agree on what the first version has to do, map the screens and integrations, and give you a fixed price. During development we bill every two weeks for the hours the team worked, and the total never goes over that price. If the scope changes halfway through, the change gets its own estimate before anyone starts on it.

If you're starting from an idea, the first step is our Snapshot package. It isn't the app itself: in two weeks and from $5,000, it covers discovery, a clickable prototype of the main flow and the fixed-price quote for the build. The fee is credited to the build if you continue.

Your code lives in your own repositories from the first commit, and the store and cloud accounts are registered in your name.

Frequently asked questions

Is it cheaper to build for iOS or Android only?

With React Native, less than you might expect. More than 90% of the code is shared, so dropping a platform mostly saves its device testing, its store release and any native modules it needs. If your users are on both platforms, launching on both usually costs little extra.

Is React Native cheaper than Flutter?

For the same app, the build cost is close: both give you one codebase for iOS and Android. We work in React Native, so weigh our view with that in mind. Its advantage is that it uses JavaScript and TypeScript, the same languages as React and Next.js on the web, which makes it easier to share code and people between your app and your website.

How long does it take to build a React Native app?

A simple app takes up to a month, a standard one two to four months, and a complex one six to ten months. Starting from an idea adds design time before development begins.

Can you build an app from my existing designs?

Yes. We review the files first and list any missing screens or states before we quote, so the price covers the whole app and not only what's drawn.

Can you take over a React Native app another team built?

Yes. We start with a review of the codebase, then tell you what state it's in and what it would take to move forward.

Who owns the code?

You do, from day one. The code, the App Store and Google Play listings and the cloud accounts are all in your name, not ours.
